No app or extension
Runs in the browser you already have, on desktop, iPhone or Android.
No login asked for
We never ask for a Tumblr account, a token or a password, so there is nothing to leak.
The file as it plays
You get back what the player streams, sound included – no re-encode and no watermark added by us.
How to download a Tumblr video
- 1
Copy the video's address
Open the post in a browser and copy its address from the bar – you want a tumblr.com/post/… or tumblr.com/username/… link.
- 2
Check that it plays for a logged-out visitor
Paste the link into a private window. If the player starts there, this page can read it too. Anything asking for a login, an age check or a payment is out of reach.
- 3
Paste it above and press Download MP4
Savemov opens the link, finds the media file the player streams and prepares a copy.
- 4
Save it on your device
The result link comes back with the response, so download it on the spot – Savemov does not keep a copy of your Tumblr video.
File, quality and what stays out of reach
No conversion step, so nothing is lost on the way. Tumblr's own help says uploads arrive as MOV or MP4 and that a GIF posted there becomes a 720p H.264 MP4 – which is exactly the file this page gives back, and why there is no GIF option to switch on.
Quality follows the post, not our settings. A GIF published small comes back small and we will not upscale it into something the upload never was. There is no audio-only MP3 track, no subtitle file and no second copy at a higher resolution.
Public posts only. Private blogs, password-protected posts and anything a subscriber-only blog hides behind a login stay out of reach – we never ask for a Tumblr account and cannot use one. A reblog carries the original file, so its link lands on the same video as the source post.
Tumblr video downloader FAQ
How do I download a Tumblr video?
Copy the link (tumblr.com/post/… or tumblr.com/username/…), paste it in the box above and press Download MP4. Tumblr plays a video or a looping GIF without offering anybody else's post as a file – its own help pages describe what to upload, not how to keep a post you came across. We hand back the same file the player streams.
Can I download a Tumblr GIF?
Yes, and you are not really converting anything: Tumblr's own engineering post explains that GIFs on the platform are served as looping MP4 files. The copy you save plays like the GIF you saw, only with a .mp4 name.
Why is the GIF I saved silent?
Because the file Tumblr serves for a GIF carries no audio track at all – a loop posted as a GIF never had sound to keep. Videos posted on Tumblr do keep their audio.
Do I need the Tumblr app or an account?
Neither. One link and one request in the browser you already have – nothing to install, no login to hand over.
How do I save a Tumblr video to my iPhone camera roll?
Open the post in a browser and copy its address from the bar, paste the link above and press Download MP4 in Safari. Then iOS does one thing Android does not: the file lands in the Files app, not straight in Photos. Open Safari's download list, tap the file, press Share → Save Video and it is in your camera roll. No App Store app, and nothing is signed in along the way.
Is it free, and how many videos can I save?
Yes, with no sign-up and nothing stamped onto the file. Each request saves one public Tumblr video as MP4, at the quality that page published. Savemov does not keep the file.
Is downloading a video legal?
Keeping one to watch offline is normally fine. Republishing it somewhere else – cut up or untouched – without whoever made it agreeing is not your call to make, and not ours either. Copyright stays with the person who uploaded it.
